Matt Gardiner

CPA, CFE, Partner

Bio

Matt Gardiner joined the firm in 2013, and was promoted to partner in 2025. Matt grew up around the business, coming into the office to visit his parents, grandfather and uncle regularly – he remembers regularly running into his grandpa’s office to get candy out of the bottom drawer of his desk. For as long as he can remember, the firm has been a massive part of his life. When he started into the college of business at Iowa State University in 2009, he knew early on that he was well-suited for accounting—thoroughly enjoying the coursework and math required. Matt made the Dean’s list every semester and joined the Honors Program, and graduated Magna Cum Laude. Over the summer months, he interned at Gardiner, working on coops and credit unions, and going on inventory observations. The week after graduating he began his career. He is incredibly proud to be third generation, following in his grandfather’s and father’s footsteps, looking to continue the growth of the firm that has been so impactful on his family’s legacy.

Hobbies

Matt enjoys spending time with his family—wife (Kathleen), and sons (Brody and Dillon). On weekends in the summer we can be found at the Des Moines Farmers Market or out riding bikes to the nearest parks. Matt also enjoys playing guitar (huge fan of the blues), and exercising (riding bikes is his favorite).

Expertise

Matt specializes in agriculture clients, employee benefit plans, and non-profits. He is a member of AICPA, ISCPA and NSAC, and is a Certified Fraud Examiner. Matt manages technology for the firm and is a champion of AI-aided audit techniques.

In my career we’ve seen so much change in the workplace. The largest change has been technology driven: whether that was the move to digital or cloud-based solutions, or AI-aided auditing; continuously finding a better way to build the mousetrap is my favorite part about what we do.
