Bio

Jim English joined Gardiner + Company in 1994. He was drawn to the company because of their expertise in the agribusiness industry. He grew up on a farm in North Central Iowa and wanted to stay close to his Midwestern and agricultural roots. 16 years into his tenure at Gardiner, changes in the company presented Jim with the tremendous opportunity for increased responsibilities and a more enhanced role in the firm which lead him to becoming partner in January of 2010. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1993 has spent nearly his entire professional life with Gardiner + Company.

Hobbies

Outside of the office you will find Jim spending time with his wife, Mary Beth, and cheering on their kids, Zach and Lexi, at their sporting events and activities. He enjoys watching sports and is a diehard Chicago Cubs fan, as well as a fan of the UNI Panthers, Iowa Hawkeyes and Dallas Cowboys. During football and basketball season, Jim spends some of his free time managing the Gardiner + Company office pools.

Expertise

Jim works almost exclusively on cooperatives and other ag-related entities and is a member of AICPA, ISCPA and NSAC and is licensed in Iowa. He strengthens his knowledge in cooperatives by receiving as many continuing education hours as possible through classes and meetings. Jim’s clients have described him as an expert in cooperative accounting. They respect the quality of work they receive from Jim and appreciate his ability to be innovative and provide alternatives. Jim is very hands-on with his work and believes in being highly involved in his clients’ audit process rather than partnering from afar. His experience in agribusiness is very beneficial to his clients as he can better answer their questions and provide solutions to their problems. Jim strives to help his clients build a stronger, more successful company, whether it be tax planning ideas, equity management, accounting assistance or operational improvements.

Trust is the most important part of any relationship. I’ve been around agriculture my entire life so clients see me as an equal and they know they can trust my expertise.
